Dental Bridges
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by positioning an artificial tooth or teeth in the open space. Fake teeth are secured with attached crowns that are slid onto the neighboring teeth. By quite literally bridging the gap between open spaces in your smile, this form of restoration provides a long-lasting fix that is both effective and natural looking.
Before inserting the crowns, the neighboring teeth are reduced in size and shape so the new enamel can be easily fitted. Once secured, impressions are made of the teeth and then constructed into a mold that is then inserted into the area.
Missing teeth can have a negative impact not only on your smile but also on your overall oral health. The open space allows room for neighboring teeth to shift, resulting in misalignment. New positioning makes it so teeth are harder to clean and more susceptible to problems like gum disease and cavities. In some scenarios, open spaces in the mouth can affect the ability to speak as well as chew.
While many patients turn to dental implants to fix missing teeth, this option is not viable for those with certain medical conditions or those who do not have a sufficient amount of bone to place the implant into. In scenarios like these, a dental bridge is a secure and lasting alternative that mirrors the look of natural teeth.
