Inlays & Onlays
Dental inlays and onlays are used to fill in areas of the teeth that were removed due to decay. Similar to fillings, inlays fit inside the tooth to fill it out and provide a natural appearance. Their bonding process also improves the strength of the teeth. Onlays are also fit inside of the tooth, but they extend onto the top of the chewing surface.
These restorations are performed to repair teeth that have mild decay, moderate cracks, and fractures that are not severe enough to need a crown. Oftentimes, patients have too much damage for a filling to be sufficient, yet the tooth is healthy enough to avoid the need for a full crown. Therefore, we can preserve more of the patient’s original tooth structure by applying a simple inlay or onlay. These treatments are durable and can last for years and years. They help to strengthen the teeth and prevent the need for dental treatment in the future.
We take an impression of the compromised tooth and then create an inlay or onlay that is compatible with the shape. Once it’s ready, we ensure that it fits correctly and then cement it into the mouth with a strong adhesive. It’s finished with a polish that helps it blend in naturally with the rest of the teeth. Our inlays and onlays are tooth-colored, so you’ll walk away with a smile that’s as natural looking as possible.
If you think you’re a good candidate for an inlay or an onlay, give us a call today and we’d be happy to walk you through the details.
